What can we learn from Canaletto and Guardi? From Sargent and Sickert, Monet, Turner and Seago?

What were their intentions and what can we learn from their techniques and theories that can apply just as readily to any cityscape, in fact to any painting. Paul will paint a study of a Sickert and probably a Seago.
