A New Step Forward: Advanced Mentoring

At the Studio we’re always evolving — listening to you, refining our courses, and finding new ways to support your development. One theme that has come through again and again is the desire for creative mentoring: a chance to discuss your own original work more personally, reflect on its direction, and receive guidance that builds upon your existing technical foundation.

We know that many of you would like to explore this — not as another technical course, but as a way to move your work forward with purpose, independence, and confidence.

That’s why we’ve developed Advanced Mentoring — a new, structured, and affordable online mentoring programme designed exclusively for Advanced Oils members. It offers the critical and creative benefits of professional mentoring while remaining affordable and flexible enough to fit around your studio life.

Through two online sessions per quarter, you’ll receive the kind of focused, reflective support that helps you grow as a painter:

• One small-group mentoring session that gives you the space to step back and see your work in context — learning from the critique of others as well as your own.

• One individual one-to-one session with Martin Kinnear, dedicated to your own paintings, ideas, and direction.

• Plus, an initial orientation 121 to set up your mentoring, 121 on Zoom with Martin.

This structured format makes it possible to gain high-quality mentoring at a fraction of the cost and commitment of traditional in-person tuition.

For those who prefer deeper, studio-based engagement, in-person one-to-one mentoring with Martin — where he works directly with you physically with and  even on your paintings — is also available. But for most painters, this new online format offers the perfect balance: personal guidance, professional depth, and flexible access.

It’s also an excellent option for those who want to develop their own work and thinking without committing to the full Contemporary Painting Programme, which is being refined and will relaunch in the future.
